Educator, Peacemaker, Architect of Change
Having spent 15 years in corporate management, Gina took a leap of faith and left it all to dedicate herself to her passion of teaching. She holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in International Business and a Master of Art in Teaching with certifications in K-8, middles school and bilingual/ESL education. She is an internationally certified Kundalini Yoga instructor and a certified restorative justice practices facilitator and trainer. She is the founder of the Unity Dialogues, a circle process where students and adults learn from each other and grow from authentic, open dialogue about race and unity development.
Advocacy, commitment and dedication are the foundation that Gina works from as a relentless voice for the voiceless, her students. Ensuring equitable educational opportunities for students has been at the forefront of Gina’s teaching career and work. Gina’s expertise developing education professionals on racial justice in education, restorative practices has allowed her to work to empower educators in multiple districts around the country. As a Restorative Justice practitioner and trainer, Gina utilizes circle processes and communication tools to create environments that break down barriers to communication and encourages open, honest dialogue inside and outside of the classroom.
As Chair of the Illinois Education Association’s Human and Civil Rights Committee, she has implemented statewide measures to ensure and promote diverse involvement of educators in leadership. She co-created and leads the training for the Board of Directors on institutionalized racism, the school to prison pipeline and implicit bias. She is the co-lead of two annual Minority Leadership Trainings and has facilitated trainings for all levels of educators and education support professionals at multiple statewide Illinois Education Association professional development conferences. Gina also has presented multiple topics at the National Education Association’s nationally led and accredited conferences including the Leadership Summit, Higher Education and Student Conferences. Her work as a member of the Board of Directors for the National Education Association has given her the opportunity to not only lobby legislators but advocate at a wider level or equitable opportunities in education for all students.
Gina supports local community development by mentoring youth and conducting workshops for teens that develop student’s resiliency and valuable tools for self growth, leadership and peacebuilding activities. Gina facilitates with integrity, clarity, authenticity and a calm that is infectious. Most importantly, she is an architect of change supporting the ongoing work of ensuring educators are adept and skilled in the evidence based methods and practices that create calm and productive learning environments which foster understanding in the classroom.
She has been a yoga and meditation practitioner for over 20 years, an internationally certified Kundalini Yoga instructor and hatha teacher, and licensed spiritual practitioner. This training, coupled with her MBA and Masters degree in Teaching, has allowed her to create and teach courses in yoga, wellness and various spiritual practices, including the healing gong, across the U.S. for more than eight years. Gina is a social justice activist and the author of the upcoming book "7 Minutes to Center". She is also the proud mom to two amazing girls.
